This work is about the symbolic relationship between man and nature. ‘Mandalas’ uses therapeutic techniques from inherited traditions of knitting and crochet and used to explore our ethical and social relationships with the environment.
The investigation is made through appropriating the technique of crochet applied to the medium of plastic bags. This technique has been learned in Africa and allows new life to be given to waste plastic. The Mandalas re-form the bags to highlight their universal dimension. Just as energy and matter endless exchange, new meaning and vitality is given to and generated from these recycled plastic bag Mandalas.
